Welcome and Thank You
Thanks for visiting our web site and allowing us to tell you about The York County Food Closet. The Food Closet is a 501(c)(3) organization under the umbrella of the national unit of Church Women United. It serves needy residents of York County and Poquoson and all donations are tax-deductible. The Food Closet respects and serves all clients equally, regardless of race, religious preference, color, sex, marital status, age, national origin, citizenship, or handicap.
Jesus commanded, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:25-27)
Our ministry provides loving service to the poor and hungry of
York County and Poquoson, by operating an ecumenical food pantry.
A Thank You to the Members of St Luke's. The Food Closet would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church for their ongoing support. St. Luke’s has housed the Food Closet since 1983 and included a new facility for us in their latest building expansion which we moved into the Fall, 2013. Proverbs 14:31 states “. . . whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” Your dedication to the ministry of the Food Closet truly honors God, and we promise that our ministry to the hungry will continue in a loving and caring manner. In God's Love, People of the Food Closet
It was another busy year at the Food Closet.
75 volunteers gave over 3000 hours and we saw a 5.9%
decrease in the number of visits compared to 2015.
For more statistics, see the Food Closet Report of 2016
under the Home Page Header Tab.
Volunteering might literally be good for your heart. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University have found an association between volunteerism and decreased risk of high blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for heart attack, stroke, heart failure and metabolic syndrome . Help change the world, feed the hungry, see how you can be a Food Closet Volunteer.
